Hospital newborn photography—or Fresh 48 sessions, as they've come to be called—is definitely trending. We LOVE that new moms and dads are inviting photographers into their delivery rooms in those earliest moments of their baby's life; these are precious, vulnerable, and exhausting moments but we know they won't regret having them captured.
While we didn't have our baby in a hospital (home birth for the win! And yes, it was on purpose) we still wanted our newest addition's Fresh 48 caught on...SD card? Film? I want to say film. Anyway, no matter where you have your baby, they're only going to be a few hours old for a few hours. It's so worth pausing in the middle of all the newness and soreness and fatigue and excitement to just snatch a few simple, but also magnificent, pictures.
I look forward to taking newborn pictures the entire time I'm pregnant and I love to be able to take some of the earliest pictures of my babies myself. Some of my favorites over the years (and babies!) are the meet-the-siblings photos. There's a mixture of delight, curiosity, confusion (we've had some very young big siblings) and affection that is so fun to look back on later.
